Welcome to Bobcaygeon!

Bobcaygeon boasts numerous water front communities such as Port 32, Victoria Place, Lakeview Estates, Pirates Glen and Alpine Village along with cottages, in-town homes and land. We have property, homes and amenities to satisfy budgets large and small. The Kawartha Lakes: home of over 250 lakes is renowned for its many parks, trails, lakes and rivers. Add Bobcaygeon to your short list of destinations to consider when hunting for a retirement or vacation property.

Our History

Incorporated as the Village of Bobcaygeon in 1876, and known as the “Hub of the Kawarthas”, Bobcaygeon has become a tourist and retirement destination for those looking to escape the GTA. The recorded name bob-ca-je-wan-unk comes either from the Mississauga Ojibwa word baabaagwaajiwanaang ”at the very shallow currents”, giishkaabikojiwanaang ”at the cliffed cascades” or obaabikojiwanaang ”at currented rocky narrows”, or from the French beau bocage ”beautiful hedged farmland”. Bobcaygeon has historically been a popular destination for tourists and cottagers, the first lock constructed (Lock 32) on the Trent Severn Waterway is the centre of the village which connects boaters with Sturgeon Lake and Pigeon Lake.

Three Islands one Heart

Bobcaygeon rests on three islands in-between Sturgeon and Pigeon Lakes, and is connected by seven bridges. The Kawartha Lakes and Trent Severn Waterway are a focal point of recreational activities in Bobcaygeon. From sailing, fishing, swimming and canoeing to cruising the Trent Severn Waterway. With a rich history in farming and timber, Bobcaygeon Settlers Village offers visitors the opportunity to see many pioneer buildings and homes and offers many community events including the Festival of Trees. The Bobcaygeon Fair, a century old event presents animal competitions, a midway, contests, a parade and a demolition derby.

Village Activities and Clubs

Bobcaygeon offers year round attractions and activities such as hiking, fishing, skating, ice hockey, curling, snowmobiling, boating, historic walks, skateboard park, bingo nights, a lawn bowling club and beaches to name a few. One of Ontario’s oldest Fall Fairs’ goes far back as 1858. This little town is also known for hosting Canada’s premier “Open Fiddle and Step Dance Contest” and has been the host for many years to the Annual Canada/US Walleye Fishing Tournament. Up to 150 teams from all over North America set out to Sturgeon and Pigeon Lakes to catch “the big one” on the last weekend in May.
